Never mind that the trip we were going to take this week would have been in a nice condo, complete with pools and hot tubs, but Cami was delighted with the dumpy motel room we ended up in over at the coast at the last minute this week. The top on her list of criteria? A warm bath waiting for her when she came back wet from the beach. I couldn't help laughing as she sank down under the warm water and said, "Now THIS is a vacation!"
Ryan already had some time scheduled off this week, but our other plans didn't work out. So we woke up Monday morning, took one look at the weather forecast (over 100 for 3 days in a row, for those of you outside Oregon), and immediately called and made reservations for two nights at the coast. It was the perfect solution--we enjoyed some rare warm and sunny weather at the beach, and missed the worst of the heat wave at home. It didn't even bother us that Wednesday was mid 60s and misty down by the water; we knew what we were heading home to and that cool was preferable!

Despite the warm weather, the ocean water was inevitable FREEZING, so it was a nice surprise that the little river that usually goes in a straight, shallow line into the ocean had developed a curve into a little pond-like area right on the beach that was warm and perfect for kids (or dads and moms!) to play in. That's when the goggles came out of the bottom of the swimming bag.

There was also a great playground at the lake where we launched the boat. The girls probably could have stayed there all day and been happy.

We did catch other real fish, but this was definitely the catch of the day--a blanket off the bottom of the lake. Gross.
It's too bad you can hardly ever count on nice weather at the coast here. This would be a trip we wouldn't mind repeating (although doing more research before me make reservations would be nice--it was hard to tell the kids for three days, "Would you PLEASE keep your shoes or socks on, I REALLY don't want you to touch the floor.")
what a super super fun vacation!
